Solar Means Business

As Staples Inc. strives to achieve greatness in the way of planet friendly practices, the company has, once again, reached their goal as it was recently recognized for its’ continued utilization of solar energy. In the October 2013 release of the Solar Energy Industries Association “Solar Means Business” report, Staples ranked as one of the top users of solar energy among all U.S. companies. Ranked #9 in overall capacity, among forerunners such as Wal-Mart, Costco, Ikea, and Kohl’s, Staples remains in the top ten with 13.69 kW of capacity. They are the only Massachusetts based company in the top 25.

In 2004, Staples teamed up with SunEdison, a west coast based company specializing in providing solar generated energy to commercial, government, and utility companies. Together, they created the solar hosting program to maximize the production of solar energy to contribute to the efforts of operating the business in the most sustainable way possible. Since then, SunEdison has developed solar installations on 33 Staples sites. Staples is ranked #7 within the top companies by number of installations, with 37 installations in total.

Staples continues to look into new projects like the installation of solar panels at specific locations, such as those with higher energy prices, will help to aid in the efforts to keep Staples as one of the most successful companies, doing it in the most sustainable way possible.
